I have been an Early Childhood Educator for over 30 years.I received my education from Simon Fraser University and The Montessori Training Institute of B.C. My background has been in mainly Montessori preschools and kindergartens, owning an in-home family childcare center and working as a Support Worker for Children’sFamily Therapy in Kamloops. I taught Early Childhood Education at Sprott-Shaw College for seven years.
My image of the child is that he/she is strong, capable, competent, curious, knowledgeable, and full of potential, and is the protagonist of their own learning. I believe in educating the “head, the heart, and the hands” of the child through developmentally appropriate practice based on the interests of the children.I see myself as a facilitator, nurturer, co-learner, and explorer of knowledge with the children.
I believe in fostering an environment that is nurturing, warm and safe, one that provides the highest level of care and education for each child. To provide a “home away from home” that is inclusive for all and enables each child to feel secure, positively attached, and to develop at their own pace to their highest potential.
I believe relationships with the families and co-workers are the cornerstone of my practice. I value all families’ heritage, culture, and opinions when collaborating alongside them to build respectful partnerships.
PLAY is the foundation in early childhood! It is the cement that builds the “house of higher learning” in a child’s life. When a child is truly given the freedom and uninterrupted time to play…magic happens!!
The Giraffe Story
“ The giraffe is an unfortunate animal. His heart and his mind are so far apart. It takes days before a giraffe knows he is in love because the love needs to travel a long distance from his heart to his mind. Let’s not distance knowledge from passion.
Intelligences from sentiment. There are too manygiraffe schools in this world.” Loris Malaguzzi
